RIAAP Survey: Please Provide Valuable Input on
Experience with Screening and Intervention for Adolescent Substance Abuse

Dear Colleagues,
As pediatricians we recognize that substance use by youth is wide spread, is not easily recognized, and has implications for long-term health and functioning. What we may not be aware is that Rhode Island adolescents rank 5 th in the nation in self-reported marijuana use with nearly one quarter of high school students report using marijuana (YRBS 2015 data).

Please take a few moments to answer the enclosed survey about your experience with screening and intervention for adolescent substance use and learn about an upcoming opportunity take part in a AAP 2020 Grant supported 4 hour in person training on October 5, 2017, 4-8pm focusing on educating pediatric providers on; routinely screening for substance use, assessing risk, applying techniques of motivational interviewing to encourage sustainment of healthy habits and behavior change and referring to treatment.
