Hello fellow Rhode Island pediatricians!
With much of our effort and attention directed towards the current COVID-19 pandemic, I am hoping to call your attention back to the youth e-cigarette epidemic. This is a topic that I am very passionate about, receiving training on both tobacco and e-cigarette use and cessation from the AAP. I am now serving as the AAP E-Cigarette Chapter Champion to increase education and advocacy around this important topic. In Rhode Island, almost half (49%) of high school students have ever used an e-cigarette according to the 2019 Youth Risk Behavior Survey. I encourage everyone to educate themselves about e-cigarettes, screen and counsel patients and their parents, and advocate for changes in our local government.

With the support of the RIAAP, I will be offering 1 hour remote educational sessions for individual practices or practice groups interested in learning more about e-cigarettes and how you can implement screening and cessation in your office (1.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit ). Lunchtime and evening hours available to fit the needs of your practice. Please email me at allison_heinly@brown.edu to schedule today!

Sincerely,
Allison Heinly, MD
